The 5 Different Types of Car Injuries and How Everybody Can Avoid Them
There are different types of car accident injuries, but no matter what type the car injury is, one thing is for sure: they affect different parts of your body and, at one point, incapacitate you temporarily or worse, permanently. The most common parts affected are your internal organs, your head, neck, and face, and your limbs. These injuries can be hidden and can be debilitating if not given the proper medical attention in the soonest time possible.
Below are the most common car accident injuries:
1. Head injuries
Head injuries can be internal or external, and in most cases, internal head injuries are the more serious ones as compared to external head injuries since clotting and oxygen deprivation can be present, although external head injuries – especially if there is a lot of blood involved – can be more overwhelming.
Head injury diagnosis can be at times very difficult, especially if the injury is internal. CT scans and MRI scans – tests needed to be able to detect the extent of the damage – are expensive as well.
2. Neck injuries
Neck injuries vary, from a simple whiplash to complicated and life-threatening disk injuries. CT scans and MRIs are also usually the tests doctors will be using to diagnose these. Same with head injuries, neck injuries are also life-threatening and can also be debilitating since the neck is already a part of the spinal column. Injury to this area can cause paralysis.
3. Back injuries
Back injuries, if not life threatening and paralyzing, can be annoying since they would require therapy to be able to get it to function properly again. Back therapy can range from hot packs or cold packs, infrared heat, ultrasound, acupuncture, traction, to electrical stimulation.
4. Internal Organs Injuries
Internal organs, like the liver, kidney, spleen, lungs, and the heart, are life threatening as well. They might require long-term hospitalization and the damage done can be permanent even when treated.
5. Dismemberment
Damage to the different parts of the body resulting from car accident injuries can be too extensive and can lead to dismemberment since there is no longer any cure to the injury especially if the it is already on its way to gangrene.
Approximately six million car accidents occur in the United States yearly, and one person dies every 12 minutes because of car accident injuries. To make sure that you and your family will not be part of the statistics, make sure that you are alert at all times when on the road. Always wear your seatbelts and avoid using your mobile phones while driving. Mix these precautionary measures with obeying all traffic rules and regulations to ensure safety.
