Causes of Car accident injuries
Car accident injuries have occurred ever since the invention of the automobile, with the first ever recorded accident happening in 1869 involving the death of a woman who was thrown out of the carriage and subsequently crushed by one of the wheels. For the past 25 years or so, deaths from car accident injuries have declined by half worldwide, mainly due to increased emphasis on car safety with the standard use of airbags to lessen injuries and deaths from collisions.
The United States is one of the few nations wherein car accident injuries and deaths have increased dramatically at the same time. Some factors involved are: increase number of motorists, steady increase in the number of larger vehicles, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and driving while using cellphones and other gadgets. Another cause is attributed to motorists making sudden and unnecessary stops to view something or some event on the road making other motorists fail to stop quickly. This is called "rubbernecking" and is the no. 1 cause of all rear-end car accidents resulting in whiplash injuries. Other causes are passing cars or changing lanes without properly signaling, playing pranks on other motorists, not observing road signs and warnings, and not buckling up.
Car accidents from car defects and malfunctions are also a contributing factor. Cars that fail to brake properly, or tire wheels that skid or blowout can cause rollovers which can cause severe untold injury, and is quite dangerous to other motorists on the road. Even a malfunctioning brake light and signal light can pose a danger to a fellow driver. Have your car checked out according to the manufacturers’ schedule, and use only the designated replacement parts for it. Proper maintenance should be done at least once a week in order to foresee any defects and make the proper adjustments.
Some injuries sustained from car accidents are broken bones, kneecap injuries, neck and spinal cord injuries, and shock related injuries. Severe car accidents have resulted in permanent disability and in some cases death. Some injuries never heal completely, and may require a lifetime of dependency to pain killers and other medicines, aside from the pain and suffering the victims have undergone under a surgeons knife. Other cases involve also a lifetime of undergoing rehabilitation to correct the damage done by such accidents, as also psychological treatment due to the traumatic experience.
Car accident injuries are preventable, and can be lessened if one is prudent in observing proper car care, is a defensive driver, and obeys road safety rules and regulations. Remember, every time you are out on the road, every car has precious cargo on board, so take care and drive safe always.
